A few notes on this conversation:
What a delight to chat with the friend who has been in my life the longest!
Jess Kruse-Eriksen (nee Fahringer) works with Youth With A Mission, the same missionary organization our parents worked for when we were kids in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Now Jess, her marvelous husband Anders (a native of Denmark), and their three incredible kids live and serve in Perth, Australia.
Etymology correction: The word missionary comes from the Latin root mittere, which means to let go, cause to go, or to send.
Howard Thurman is the person whose name I couldn’t remember in this conversation. He was a powerful mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr, and many other civil rights leaders. I love this quote of his: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
A few Christian voices I recommend for our time: Richard Rohr & the Center for Action & Contemplation, my beloved mentor Bill Redfield (our conversation here), Vashti Murphy McKenzie, and Cynthia Bourgeault.
A few audio issues necessitated editing this video in iMovie. No transcript as a result; I hope to gain some greater skill in the tech aspects of podcasting in the year to come. Thanks for your grace in the interim, dear muses! ;)

This was, for me, a very thoughtful and thought provoking sharing...so much common ground we human beings get to share...no need to capitalize on differences in a negative way...common goal: human flourishing. Exclusivity is rooted in fear that Perfect Love casts out. Namaste.
Nancy, thank you so much for this! I love the connection you make between exclusivity and fear ... and the (common) Ground of All Being that transcends difference.
