In 2023 I found my creative voice revitalized in embodied connection with others, from a weekly Writers Group at Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center (shout out, you glorious humans!) to soulful time with friends. This has my heart feeling full-to-overflowing, so I am re-engaging with the interwebs by way of a weekly offering on Substack. In Greek mythology, the Muses were 9 goddesses who inspired song, poetry, and the arts. I have many muses: any person I encounter who reveals themself with heart-full-ness that reciprocates my own.
Another meaning of the world “muse” comes from the Old French muser, to loiter/reflect, which probably originated from an animal staying with its muzzle in the air. Isn’t that a marvelous image? Some of my gladdest moments come when I allow myself to stand with my muzzle in the air, reflecting/marveling/wondering at the mystery of what it means to be human on this precious, precarious planet.
My deep wish is that my offerings will provide breathing room for others looking to linger. Together, may we re-member our wholeness.
This photo is from a “Gathering of Muses” that I convened to celebrate my 43rd birthday at the end of 2023. My intention was to ground myself in embodied creative connection prior to embarking on this year-long journey of Monday Morning Muse.
